Sacred Soul Care
Beloved, I pray that you may prosper in all things and be in health, just as your soul prospers. - 3 John 1:2 What an amazing 6-weeks of scripture, prayer and Sacred Self-Care devotions and practices by author Dr. Chanequa Walker-Barnes to help us nurture and care for our souls (our whole selves)! Our Sacred Soul Care journey wrapped up last Saturday with a 20-minute prayer walk at Rainbow Beach and an ice cream social following Sunday worship service at South Shore United Methodist Church. Although our journey in exploring sacred self-care together has come to an end, I pray our soul care journey will continue and if your journey has not started, begin. Until next year! #MySoulCareisSacred |

2024 Learning Event
Opening PrayerGracious and Heavenly Father,
We thank you for bringing us together, here in this house of worship to give you glory, honor and praise. As we gather here today, we thank You for the gift of community among women. We ask for Your presence to unite our hearts and minds in prayer and in worship, and as we soon transition move into today’s Learning Event breakout sessions. God of Mercy, may we listen, learn and connect with one another in this sacred space. May we find strength in our shared experiences as United Women in Faith and be inspired by innovative ideas and fresh perspectives. Guide our discussions, Dear God. May they be filled with wisdom, understanding and enthusiasm. Together, may we grow stronger in faith and live lives that honor your teachings and your will. May we always seek to improve ourselves and the work in our mission as United Women in Faith, so that we may better serve women and children in our communities and across the globe. Thank You for this gathering and the chance to grow in knowledge and understanding. In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen. |

Women of Faith, Family and Friends,
Happy New Year, warmest wishes and the Peace of the Lord be with you now and forever! Welcome to our New Year’s Virtual Gathering with prayers and blessings just for you. As we kick off 2024 thanking and praising God not only for what he has already done, but for new miracles, grace and mercy in this new season of Hope! We look forward to grateful extraordinary beginnings as we write a new phenomenal story! New Gresham United Women in Faith is proud to support our district, conference and national counterparts in ministry; nurturing through Christian spiritual fellowship and education so that we can inspire influence and impact local and global communities. |
I’m asking God to order our steps with healing, deliverance, good health, prosperity and a new work which he will bring to completion! Trust, believe and have faith because God’s Grace is sufficient! May his strength perfect our weakness for he is always ever present.
Hope Is A Thing! Jeremiah 29:11 says “For I know the plans I have for you, declare the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Hold on to your faith and encourage yourself in the Lord!
Wishing you all a fabulous, abundant, enriched, eyes on the prize, ready and willing to serve New Year! Reflect and remember God’s promises. Enjoy the program!
Warmest Personal Regards,

Trying New Things May Amaze You ‘Salt is good; but if salt has lost its taste, how can its saltiness be restored? ~ Luke 14:34 I had never tried the southern dish chicken and waffles until later in life. I had always thought it was a crazy idea and would never have put the two items together on my plate, but our hotel concierge highly recommended this dish at a restaurant around the corner and down the street just a couple of blocks from her southern hotel we had stopped to stay at for the night. I thought that I would be brave and try her recommendation, despite my misgivings. Oh my goodness! I was blown away!

What had I been missing all of these years? A combination of sweet, savory and salty - crunchy and soft - juicy and buttery - all rolled into one plate of amazing flavors!
Our spiritual gifts and faith are much like this dish. We often try to adjust our faith to fit our own comfort level in our lives, being reluctant to share the spiritual gifts God has so graciously blessed us with. Some of us choose to quietly study the Bible on our own, while others choose to join groups such as United Women in Faith to learn more about our faith with the help of others. Some sympathize with those in need, while others choose to donate or to "get out in the field" and do actual mission work to alleviate the troubles of the needy. When we choose NOT to put our spiritual gifts and our faith into action - only believing, but not showing or sharing our gifts and faith with others, we are like salt that has lost its saltiness. Once salt loses its saltiness, it isn't worth anything and must be thrown out.
Unlike salt, though, our faith and spiritual gifts can be re-energized and restored. We can choose to become more involved in sharing our faith and gifts with others and, by doing so, strengthen these very things within ourselves at the same time. Working together as one body in the different offices of United Women in Faith also makes what gifts we have to share that much stronger in combination with the varying gifts of others, just as a savory combination of spices can bring an otherwise bland dish into a more powerfully flavorful experience to enjoy. We just have to make the decision for ourselves by stepping out in faith to share our spiritual gifts in new ways alongside others working toward a common goal of serving Christ in ministry to the world around us.
What have you been missing by not volunteering to hold and work within an office of United Women in Faith? Why have you been hesitant to step forward in faith and serve within our Conference, District or even your Local UW Faith Unit? You may blow your mind with how amazingly your choice to share your faith and spiritual gifts through this organization not only transform and strengthen you, but transforms and strengthens those with whom and for whom you serve.
Wishing you all God’s most abundant grace and blessings,
Wendy Miller

NIC UMW Leadership Training
Saturday, November 9th 2019, United Methodist Women welcomed their upcoming 2020 leadership teams across the Northern Illinois Conference at Barrington UMC for prayer, planning and leadership training. Together we spoke truth in love preparing for a "2020 vision" of knowing and growing in Christ and serving in our purpose of faith, hope and love in action.
Speaking truth in love, we will grow to become in every respect the mature body of him who is head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does it work. Ephesians 4:15-16 |

South Shore UMW 150 Year Celebration
In honor of the UMW 150 Year Anniversary, South Shore UMW celebrated the mission of the UMW, our unit and the women of the church from over the years. We have an amazing “herstory” filled with memories of prayer, gifts of generosity, and service to women, children and youth right in our community and around the world!
We honor our UMW predecessors, our women of today and tomorrow for being women of God and turning faith, hope and love into action! A very special thanks to Ms. Evelyn Carter for spearheading this memorable “birthday celebration”. May God continue to bless you and all that you do. |
